  1. Eugenics had a bad rap because of hitler. But really it is a way that populations slough off deleterious mutations. And preserve the health of the genome. Hopefully germline intervention will make the process more effective and efficient.

  3. RE pope and mistranslation: probably. I remember seeing the letter in la repubblica but didn’t read it all, and never got to the initial letter which started it. But given that Francis’ comments on gays were twisted, this one probably is too.
